Sysex Trimmer Version 1.0 (Build 8)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Requires: Windows 95/98 (NT4.0 Untested)
This is a utility to trim unnecessary Sysex messages from a .syx file.
(For example)
The SC-Pro Editor by PG-Music saves an 8k .syx file even if all
you
did was make 1 setting.
Why? SC-Pro saves all the settings of the Sound Canvas even if
they
are at the default values.
Transmitting an 8k system exclusive message takes a several
seconds,
and will interrupt playback if it happens in the middle of a
song.
This utility will eliminate unneeded sysex messages and leave
a
much smaller file.
How does it work?
After installing the Sysex Trimmer with the enclosed setup
program,
run the program and click the Trim button, you will be asked for
a
reference file, this is the sysex file that contains the default
values for the your sound module.
Included is SCC1-RESET.SYX, The default settings used by
SC-Pro for
the Roland SCC1 GS Sound Module.
You will then be asked to pick a file to trim, select the file
that
you saved your desired settings in.
And finally it asks for a file name for the trimmed file,
select a
different name than the other two files, this will be the small
.Syx
file that you can load into your sequencer.
If you don't use a SCC1 or similar sound module, you will need
to
bulk dump the defaults from your sound module into a sequencer
and
save them for use instead of the SCC1-Reset.syx file.
This program will be able to compare any sysex files where the
sysex
messages begin with F0 and end with F7.
